Well, hi everyone... I had a hard time thinking what to put up as my first post... Then i thought I'll start with my favorite bird - "Black Drongo".
This is one bird that has mesmerized me since i started bird watching and photography. Its bold, pugnacious, and extremely swift and agile on the wing... a pair of them will fearlessly attack and put to flight large birds like crows, and once I've seen them attack a kite too.
Ferociously, the pair moves in perfect orchestrated harmony, shooting straight into the intruder from below and sides, diving at it from above and drawing circles around it, leaving the poor visitor defenseless and it makes a hasty getaway...
During the breeding season (April-August), two birds, frequently a trio (??), will sit close together face to face and talk loudly 'at' one another ('argue') in harsh notes, bobbing up and down violently and fluttering the wings from time to time as if to emphasize an important point... Really intriguing...
About this photo, I spotted it eating some insects by a tree and I started to approach slowly with my camera pointed and ready to click. I get a couple of shots but not up-to the mark and its then that this guy starts moving in circles around me skipping from one tree to another, moving over wires and posts. I manage to get near and he comes and sits right in front of me about 5 feet away. I froze that instant. Few moments passed and I brought my camera up and aimed at it... It just sat there looking at me and posing... Believe me I spent like 10 minutes taking pics and he didn't fly away... kept changing his pose and staring right at me....
It was absolutely thrilling... Never had a similar encounter with any bird again...
